Practicum I course update | March 19, 2020
To all Year 1 Students, Field Instructors (except ITR Field Instructors) and Faculty-Field Liaisons,
Thank you for your patience as we navigate this challenging time. As you are aware, the situation is evolving daily and we want to ensure that you have all of the information that you need as it becomes available.
Based on a recent communication from the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, the Faculty has approved reducing the required number of practicum hours for current Year 1 students from 469 to 337.5 hours. This would apply to students on a regular schedule of January 8 – May 31, 2020.
- Midterm evaluations opened on March 13, 2020. Field instructors and students submit by March 27, 2020, copied to FFL (and EC if appropriate).
- Remote Learning Plan must be approved and supervised by the Field Instructor. As always, it is important for students to document their activities and the time assigned to each, and share with your field instructor.
The Faculty has suggested a number of remote indirect social work activities that are appropriate for your Year 1 practicum. Students and field instructors have demonstrated great creativity and flexibility in these Remote Learning Plans as we move to online modalities. Your FFLs continue to make themselves available to support with these Remote Learning Plans. Developing these indirect competencies is essential to the profession of social work.
