NOTE: COVID-19 specific information (updated September 24, 2020)
- Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) has reduced time requirement (minimum 337.5 hours) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic until April 2021. The FIFSW has set out in past years the time requirement of 518-525 hours for the Practicum II course. This may be reinstated as of April 2021.
- Personal Days: The purpose of personal days is to accommodate unexpected situations such as unforeseen illness, bereavement and religious observation. In order to stay within the requirements of the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) , the following guidelines are in place:
Practicum II that is 497 hours in length: a maximum of three personal days for the entire practicum are allowed. To mitigate impact on the organization, students must inform their field instructor and FFL as early as possible. Absences from the practicum which exceed three days must be rescheduled.
Practicum II that is less than 497 hours in length: Personal days may not be counted toward practicum hours. Students must provide the reason for absences to the field instructor and Faculty-Field Liaion. Students and field instructors are to consult with their Faculty-Field Liaison to ensure adherence to:
* the CASWE accreditation standards
* the required number of hours as negotiated by the field instructor regarding the length of practicum
