Description of the practicum site and student activities:

  • Provide 1-to-1 and group-based psychotherapy/circles to clients of the Weaving Wellness Centre, and other organizations on occasion
  • Complete consultation calls with potential clients; assist with intake of the client(s) into the Clinic
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for client presentations and provide appropriate therapeutic interventions, based on acquired training and repertoire of clinical skills
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical records, including session notes, within the OWL system and other client management applications
  • Provide practical assistance to clients in facilitating attendance of appointments and in-between session support

Assist with case management and case consultations with clients and third-parties, as needed

  • Attend cultural care sessions with clients and Knowledge Keepers of the Weaving Wellness Centre, including completion of session notes for cultural sessions
  • Assist with cultivating knowledge of available community resources, including resources specifically for Indigenous peoples
  • Consult and refer to colleagues within the Weaving Wellness Centre when needed
  • Comply with organizational, College, provincial and federal regulations, policies and guidelines, including professional standards of practice and codes of ethics for the discipline of social work
  • Assist with the development of clinical, education and training materials to be used in a variety of settings and with various populations
  • Facilitate education and training initiatives on behalf of the Centre with third-party organizations

Assist with scholarly or academic activities, including attendance at conferences and delivering academic presentations

  • Indigenous ancestry – this position is specifically for applicants who are First Nation, Métis and/or Inuit
  • Possess a strong desire and capacity to promote professional practice and excellence in client-centered care, including a commitment to ongoing training and supervision
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal, communication and; demonstrate diplomacy and patience in confrontational and/or high stress situations
  • Haven an up to date (in the last 12 months) clean Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Have availability to work in the evenings and/or occasional weekends on an as-needed basis
  • Strong connection with Indigenous culture, community, and peoples
  • Experience with online booking software and conducting teletherapy considered an asset

A virtual health clinic provides MSW students with flexible access to clinical training opportunities, allowing them to gain experience from any location with a stable internet connection.
