Program and Course Evaluations

FIFSW is committed to ensuring the quality of its academic programs, its teaching, and the learning experiences of its students. An essential component of our commitment to teaching excellence is the regular evaluation by students. The following are types of feedback that we ask from our students.

MSW Program Survey

At the end of your MSW program, we request you participate in a survey to collect your feedback for the entirety of the MSW program. As a soon-to-be graduate and independent social work professional, you have invaluable feedback on the design and delivery of the MSW program at FIFSW. This includes advancing both implicit and explicit curricula, deciding course scopes ad focuses, strategic plans for the MSW education directions and more. This is your opportunity to ensure your voice is heard and make the difference for your own home program. The Associate Dean, Academic’s office thus cordially invites you to complete this survey in the final month of your program.

Please note that the MSW ITR program evaluation is conducted separate by the OFIFC.

Course Evaluation

For EACH of your courses, you will be asked to submit an evaluation through Quercus.

Your fellow students rely on your feedback to make decisions about course selection. Instructors rely on your feedback to improve the learning environment for their courses. Chairs and Deans rely on your feedback to make changes to your programs and degree requirements. They also use feedback for tenure, review, and promotion decisions. Course evaluation plays a role in all important decision making at U of T.

Evaluations typically occur in the final two weeks of classes, and due before the final deliverable deadline. Your responses will be de-identified and aggregated with others in the course. Your identity remains completely anonymous to instructors and department staff. Evaluations you submit are confidential, and instructors cannot view their reports until after grades have been submitted and the reports have been released. Note that no one at FIFSW sees raw data, only summary statistics. Course evaluations are only conducted if there are five or more students enrolled. This is to protect your anonymity.

It is University policy that course evaluation data is shared with students. Students can access data via the Quercus course evals page. While the default is that course evaluation data is shared with students, instructors have the right to opt-out of sharing their data, though most choose to share. As well, the course evaluation results for courses with fewer than five responses are not shared.

There are two ways to access your course evaluations.

  1. Via the personalized email link that you’ll receive from course.evaluations@utoronto.ca.
  2. Via Quercus. Log-in to Quercus and access the Course Evals page. All of your active course evaluation tasks will be displayed in the Complete Your Evaluations section.
