Mississauga Community Legal Services

Year 1 Practicum

January to May 2025

Name of Practicum Site, Unit or Program:

Mississauga Community Legal Services

Location: 130 Dundas St E #504, Mississauga, ON L5A 3V8

Description of the practicum site and student activities:

Mississauga Community Legal Services (MCLS) is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide legal advice and representation to low-income residents of the City of Mississauga in various areas of law including Social Assistance, Tenants Rights, Immigration, Employment, and Canada Pension Plan-Disability. We are also committed to utilizing community development strategies to improve the lives of the people we serve.

Social work students will have the opportunity to be a part of a multidisciplinary team in order to address the client’s intersecting legal and social issues. They will do so by managing a student case load, providing brief case management support to clients going through the court/tribunal system, as well as providing advocacy, information and wrap around supports as needed. Social work students will also play a role in liaising with community agencies, researching resources for client referrals, and participating in outreach initiatives.
