Organization Description: Private psychotherapy practice providing trauma informed, evidence based mental health care children, youth and adults. Services include individual psychotherapy, groups and workshops as well as parent coaching and consultation.

Description of the practicum site and student activities: Private psychotherapy practice providing trauma informed, evidence based mental health care for children, youth and adults. Services include individual psychotherapy, groups and workshops as well as parent coaching and consultation. Areas of interest/specialization are Maternal Mental Health, Developmental Trauma, Anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress and burnout and parenting www.gracenorthpsychotherapy.com

Student activities to develop social work competencies

Direct Service Delivery/Interventions/Working with Recipients of Service:

  • Conduct intake/needs assessments
  • Provide resource and referral information
  • Hold responsibility for a defined caseload/case management
  • Develop, promote, plan and/or (co)facilitate educational groups or workshops
  • Develop and implement individual, family, or group interventions – assessment, implementation and evaluation of interventions
  • Counsel (individuals, families) – in office (some virtual but not a lot)
  • Apply best practices as outlined by the organization
  • Provide drop-in services

Interprofessional collaboration:

  • Present cases at case conferences
  • Attend staff/administrative meetings
  • Collaborate on organization’s projects
  • Consult and collaborate with professionals from other disciplines
  • Advocate for the client system
  • Participate, liaise and represent the agency at community meetings or plan of care meetings or task groups

Indirect Service Delivery:

  • Prepare and maintain case notes, reports, statistics which meet the organization’s accountability guidelines

Experience in the field an asset, working in children/youth mental health. However, a student who is driven, takes initiative and works well independently and as part of a team is highly sought after.

Is this practicum in-person, remote or hybrid?

Mostly in person for client work, working remotely for admin stuff if they so choose.
