Emergency Funding

FIFSW and SGS retain a small budget for acute, unanticipated situations causing financial hardship, and is not intended to cover a shortfall in general living expenses or tuition payment. Students who find themselves in financial difficulty due to unforeseen or unexpected circumstances are advised to consult the Registrar’s Office as soon as the situation arises.

  • FIFSW emergency funding are limited funds that are available to students who experience need as a result of sudden and unforeseen circumstances that could prevent completion of their educational programs. It is to provide short-term financial relief to registered students experiencing an immediate financial crisis. Emergency funding cannot serve as a continued funding source or make up for a shortage in OSAP and/or other graduate funding sources, nor for tuition payments or long-term cost-of-living expenses. Students are fill out the SGS Financial Need assessment form and submit to the Assistant Registrar, Records and Awards who will then schedule and appointment to discuss available resources including government financial aid programs and review funding eligibility and may be asked to complete a financial need assessment.

  • Loan applications are processed on an ongoing, continual basis throughout each academic session. Applications need to be submitted to the SGS Graduate Awards Office by 2 pm in order to be evaluated. A decision will be released within two business days upon receipt of the complete application by SGS.  For more information and the application process please visit SGS Emergency Loan Information Page

  • The SGS Emergency Grant program aims to provide short-term financial relief to students experiencing an immediate financial crisis. The Emergency Grant cannot serve as a continued funding source or make up for a shortage in OSAP and other graduate funding sources. Students are encouraged to meet with a member of the SGS Financial Advising Team to discuss available resources including government financial aid programs and review grant eligibility and may be asked to complete a financial need assessment.  SGS will collaborate with FIFSW on emergency funding supports.
