Description of the practicum site and student activities:

As a student, you will be a member of an inter-professional team conducting assessments of individuals involved in the criminal justice system. These assessments will be related to criminal responsibility, risk assessment and the risk management needs for individuals by the courts or the Ontario Review Board. In conjunction with your supervisor, you will conduct psychosocial assessments, including interviewing family members, other agencies, and medical file review. You will be required to contribute to the overall provision of social work services within the program as needed.

Please note, this is NOT a therapeutic position. We will not be conducting psychotherapy with the population served. This position is an assessment placement, not a treatment placement.

Does your practicum require any previous experience?

– Experience working within the mental health population

– Previous experience either internship/or employment

– Ability to write fulsome reports, including writing and communication skills

Is this practicum in-person, remote or hybrid?

The practicum will be held in-person, at the Queen Site location of CAMH. There may be some opportunity to work remotely.

Will this practicum involve direct work or a mix of direct and indirect?

The practicum is primarily direct involvement with both patients and interdisciplinary team members. The population served, are those with major mental illness and criminal involvement. Due to the nature of the position, an extensive portion of time is dedicated to report writing.
