Practicum Office | March 17, 2020

Dear students and field instructors,

As you know all practicum students are to move to remote learning within their placements starting this week and continuing until the end of term, April 3. We have shared a plan and some resources to facilitate the completion of practicum house. If you have not yet reviewed these documents, you can find them here:

We recognize that in come cases, flexibility is needed to aide in this transition in order to bring closure to your interaction with clients and in order to ethically tie up loose ends.

This may include the need to complete client notes on the premises, the need to ethically terminate relationships with clients, and the need for Practicum II students to collect personal belonging or return badges.

In all cases where it has been deemed important for students return, field instructors should make every effort to ensure that proper social distancing is observed and that, if possible, the time needed to wrap up necessary in-person commitments take no longer than one day.

We encourage all involved to allow for some flexibility in this process. That said, if a student feels they are at risk, they have the right to refuse to complete activities on site or in person without penalty.

If you have any questions, please contact the practicum office at practicum.fsw.utoronto.ca.

Sincerely,

Eileen McKee
