Description of the practicum site and student activities:

Psychotherapy-focused practicum in a community health and sexual health centre. Student therapist will provide psychotherapy and light case management supports to youth (ages 13-29) in the GTA. Majority of the youth accessing this centre identify as 2SLGBTQ and many are racialized. Preference for a placement student who identifies within the 2SLGBTQ community and strong preference for a student who is also a Black, Indigenous and/or Person of Colour.

Planned Parenthood Toronto is a youth-driven, anti-racist, culturally-responsive community health centre that advances reproductive justice, health and well-being for young people through primary, sexual, and mental health care, community programs, research, and advocacy.

Yes, some previous experience with direct client work would be a strong asset.

Mostly direct, but opportunities for indirect work if desired.

Accessibility Considerations:

  • Will the student have access to a private space for notes or computer use?  Yes
  • Are there breaks between clients/patients/meetings?  Yes
  • Is the practicum considered fast-paced?  Slow
  • Is there a high noise level in the practicum?  Low
  • Is the site wheelchair accessible?  No – we have a satellite location that is wheelchair accessible, but the main office is not. Can inquire about using satellite location for the practicum student.
  • What are the physical demands of the practicum? Sitting in a chair for several hours, can be adapted to a standing position if needed. If hybrid, using a screen for several hours.
  • Are there any other accessibility considerations that potential applicants with disabilities should be aware of? This placement can most likely accommodate a variety of accessibility needs.
