Attend Virtual Social Work Rounds at Kingston General Hospital

What: Join social worker Shannon Fraser as she presents on addictions and specifically relapse prevention theory and Structured Relapse Prevention (SRP), which is a substance use disorder group that Shannon facilitates with the Mental Health Day Hospital, and SRP outcomes. Relapse prevention is heavily focused on a mix of CBT, mindfulness, and skills-based psychoeducation, and SRP is built on a foundation of Motivational Interviewing.
The objectives for this presentation include:
1) Review substance use disorders
2) An interactive empathy activity
3) Develop an understanding of relapse prevention theory
4) Learn about the CAMH SRP program offered as KHSC

Bio:
Shannon Fraser is a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. Shannon has been a social worker at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) since 2011 where she has held assignments in both Internal Medicine and Mental Health. She developed an interest in addictions care three years ago after working with inpatient intravenous drug users admitted to Internal Medicine, and subsequently became a founding member of the Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation Team (START) at KHSC. Her current portfolio includes Child and Adolescent Mental Health, where she works with youth and families who suffer from substance abuse, and the KHSC Mental Health Day Hospital where she initiated and facilitates addictions group therapy. Shannon is passionate about supporting individuals and families with addictions, mental health challenges, and concurrent disorders. She practices from a holistic lens and her current educational endeavour is Yoga Teacher Training in order to provide trauma and addictions informed meditation, mindfulness, and facilitate whole body healing.
