Global News interviews Peter Newman about TCDSB’s removal of YouthLine from its list of resources for LGBTQ2 students
Categories: Peter NewmanProfessor Peter Newman was interviewed by Global News on January 12 about the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s decision to remove YouthLine — an online resource for LGBTQ2 students from its website.
“Experts are concerned the removal of the resource could push students to other sites that may promote misinformation,” wrote Global News reporter Morganne Campbell.
“That’s why it’s so important to have something like a reliable, consistent lifeline,” says Peter A Newman, a professor with the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work.
“You know with folks that are running it, who know what they are doing and who are consistently responding to students in an appropriate and consistent way,” added Newman.
On January 13, the school board reinstated the link to YouthLine on its website after meeting with the organization.
