Bio
Yi-En Hsieh (she/her) is a PhD student at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. She has extensive experience in the mental health field, particularly in working with family caregivers of adults with psychosocial disabilities (including those living with serious mental health conditions). Her research interests include discourse analysis of caregiving, caregiving during mental health crises, group-based interventions for caregivers, social work supervision, and community-based mental health practice.
Before beginning her doctoral studies, Yi-En worked as a social worker and supervisor on a caregiver-focused mental health helpline project in Taiwan. Her master’s thesis examined the local practices and professionalization of family peer support in Taiwan. Grounded in both research and practice, she is committed to developing inclusive, relational, and participatory approaches to mental health support through critical social work research.
