Yan Liang is a first-year PhD student at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. She received her Bachelor’s degree (social work) from Peking University and her MPhil in Social Welfare from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her MPhil thesis examined how social work students in mainland China understand the meaning of social justice. She has assisted with research projects on intergenerational shifts in parenting beliefs and practices, a 10-year longitudinal research on youth development, and most recently, studies on retirement decisions, old-age employment, and gig work. She is interested in exploring retirement and pension systems from family, gender and life course perspectives. She also works as a freelance book editor and loves table tennis.
