Lin Fang speaks on anti-Asian racism in Canada at global meeting
Categories: Faculty, Leadership, Lin Fang, ResearchOn April 29th, Professor Lin Fang gave a presentation on Anti-Asian Racism in Canada at the 11th session of the Group of Independent Eminent Experts on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action — the United Nations’ plan “to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance globally.”
The theme for the meeting was “Racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance against Asians and people of Asian descent.”
Drawing from her research, Fang, who holds the Factor-Inwentash Chair in Children’s Mental Health, spoke about Canadian demographics, stereotypes, and the experiences of Asian Canadian youth . She closed her presentation with recommendations for strategies to combat anti-Asian racism.

In addition to her program of research, Professor Fang is the Founder and Director of FIFSW’s Talk It Out Counselling Clinic, where supervised MSW students at FIFSW provide free short-term counseling services and community-based mental health initiatives to communities that face multiples challenges, as well as those who from Black and other racialized communities.
