Description of the practicum site and student activities:
Women’s College Hospital (WCH) is a leading academic ambulatory hospital in Toronto. Founded in 1911, WCH is committed to advancing the health of women and gender diverse people and improving healthcare options for the diverse communities it serves. As a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, WCH is a hub for innovative research, education and clinical care. The hospital’s focus areas include women’s health, mental health musculoskeletal health and complex chronic disease management.
The Office of Equity at Women’s College Hospital (WCH) is responsible for leading, implementing and coordinating health equity and inclusion initiatives to support the hospital’s strategic priority to Move the Needle on Health Equity. More specifically, The Office of Equity works to identify and address access barriers and health disparities amongst our patient population in collaboration with patients, community partners and clinical service providers.
Some of the specific projects and initiatives that the office supports include the following:
- Advancing objectives in WCH’s Strategic Plan to Move the Needle on Health Equity
- The collection and reporting of patient demographic data which will be used to support clinical and corporate decision making at the hospital
- Reviewing policies owned by the Office Of Equity
- Facilitating educational opportunities for staff about working with equity deserving populations (i.e. Anti-Black Racism Training and 2SLGBTQ+ Awareness and Inclusion Training, Anti-Indigenous Racism Training, Allyship)
- Plain Language review of Patient Education Documents
