Year 1 Practicum, January- May 2027

Name of Practicum Site, Unit or Program:

Winrose Oasis Services is a private counselling practice based in Hamilton, Ontario. Winrose Oasis Services provides therapy and wellness services for children, youth, adults, couples, and families. We provide services virtually within Ontario or in person in Hamilton. We will provide various opportunities for learning such as:

•  Attend team meetings and supervision
•  Conduct intake, complete documentation, and other administrative tasks
•  Individual counselling sessions (virtual/in-person) with clients (youth/adults)
•  Engage in consultation calls with clients
• Attend training
•  Provide referrals and resources
• Develop and/or co-facilitate workshops
• Program planning and evaluation
• Shadow field instructors and participate in role plays
• Complete session documentation
• Collaborate on projects or with other community organizations
• Crisis intervention
• Trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racism, anti-black racism practices

Practicum Requirements:

• Vulnerable Sector Check
• Preference for candidates who are members of Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, persons with disabilities, and/or from other equity deserving groups
• Some evening work required

Does your practicum require any previous experience?

Previous experience working or volunteering in the field would be helpful.

Is your practicum in-person or remote?

This practicum will be a hybrid of in-person and remote. This practicum can be made fully remote at the student’s request

Is this practicum direct or mixed?

This practicum will involve both direct and indirect work.

• Will the student have access to a private space for notes or computer use? The student will use their own computer. Access to a secure platform (through Jane Software) will be provided for student to complete client notes. • Are there breaks between clients/patients/meetings? Yes, students will have flexibility.
• Is the practicum considered fast-paced? Medium, it is dependent on how often clients access services.
• Is there a high noise level in the practicum? No, will be using online platform.
• Is the site wheelchair accessible? Yes
• What are the physical demands of the practicum? Sitting required for meetings and sessions.
• Are there any other accessibility considerations that potential applicants with disabilities should be aware of? N/A.
