Riptide Counselling

Year 1 Practicum, January to May 2027

Riptide Counselling, Remote Private Practice

Description of the practicum site and student activities:

Riptide Counselling was born out of a need within the local area of Fredericton New Brunswick, specifically for those with higher needs and complex needs that cannot currently receive services elsewhere in the community. Due to the nature of private practice, Riptide does service a variety of different populations and needs.
Primary modalities used at Riptide Counselling are Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Play Therapy (CAPT).

This practicum will provide students with experience in how a private practice is run from all aspects: business, media, resourcing, community partnerships, along with the direct clinical practice (witnessing sessions, running sessions, attending supervision).

Practicum Requirements:

  • Police Reference/Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Comfort working with the population being served
  • Comprehensive report writing and documentation
  • Evening attendance
  • Access to a private office to work out of for the entire placement. You will be offering virtual sessions and must be able to access a private space.
  • Ability to work 8-4pm on Practicum days.
