Biography: 

Dr. Tin D. Vo (he/they) joined the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work in July 2024 as an assistant professor in community-based social work practice. Dr. Vo completed Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto and at Unity Health Toronto. They completed a PhD in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master of Public Health at University of Alberta, and an Honours, Bachelor of Science at University of Guelph. During their academic training, Dr. Vo has been awarded the CIHR Fellowship Award, the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award, and Hilary M. Weston Scholarship for outstanding scholastic achievement and commitment to mental health. Recently, their research team was recognized by the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation’s 2023 Best Article Award.

Dr. Vo’s interdisciplinary, community-engaged research centres on social climate and exclusion as determinants of health with an emphasis on belonging, resilience/resistance, and overall wellbeing. Using a critical, equity-focused lens, their research evaluates policies and systems for diverse populations, and explores the intersectional lived experiences of historically marginalized communities to enhance their belonging and wellbeing in various contexts, including higher education, leisure spaces, and community settings. Their research program spans local, provincial, national, and international levels of engagement. They are also a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ Health Hub and the Canadian Regional Network of the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience.

Dr. Vo has worked in the public sector and with nonprofit organizations for more than ten years as a Credentialed Evaluator, program planner, researcher, and private consultant. They are a member of the Ethics Guidance Working Group for the Canadian Evaluation Society. They have previously served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Evaluation Society’s Education Fund as a Member-at-Large (2020-2023) and Ontario Chapter as the Treasurer (2016-2019), and as well as for the Ontario Public Health Association as the Treasurer (2013-2016). They have also been awarded the CES Ontario Award for Distinguished Service in 2019.
