Germaine Trudeau-Elliott is Anishinaabe Kwe, of the fish clan from Serpent River First Nation. She is currently working for the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle as the Executive Director of the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Interprofessional Primary Care Team. She has held this position since 2018 and has led the development of Indigenous led integrated and wholistic primary care in the North Simcoe region. In this work, she strives to decolonize the impact of current health care practice, through a return to community-based knowledge systems of care and Indigenous healing practices. From 2006 to 2018 she worked as the manager of an Indigenous Community Mental Health Program in Simcoe County. She is a former member of the Joint Management Committee of the provincial Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy (1997-2002 and 2004-2006). From 2005 to 2007 she served as a member of the Hate Crimes Community Working Group, appointed by the Attorney General of Ontario.
From 2010 to 2024, Germaine chaired the Indigenous Health Circle of the Simcoe Muskoka region. The Indigenous Health Circle is a collaborative body which drives health system change for Indigenous communities. She is a current member of the OH Central Region Health System Transformation Table and the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Provincial Advisory Working Group.
In 2018, Germaine graduated from the University of Toronto’s Master of Social Work Program with a specialization in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency (ITR). In 2022 she began mentorship in the MSW-ITR program at U of T. In January. 2026 she will begin her first class as a sessional in this program.
Germaine lives in Orillia Ontario and is a mother of four and grandmother of nine.
