Andie MacNeil
Andie MacNeil MA MSW RSW is a PhD student and course instructor in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. She is also a contract lecturer in the School of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Andie’s doctoral research focuses on understanding drug use stigma, the institutionalization of harm reduction, and the gaps in harm reduction services for older adults who use drugs. Her doctoral research is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral Award.
Andie holds a Master of Social Work, a Master of Arts in Sociology with a specialization in Addiction Studies, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Health Studies from the University of Toronto.
Alongside her academic work, Andie has previous social work practice experience in a variety of community mental health and substance use settings, including as a frontline supervisor in a 24-hour respite site for people experiencing homelessness, a social worker on a harm reduction team at a community health centre, and as a counsellor in an addiction medicine clinic. She currently serves as a volunteer therapist at the WoodGreen walk-in counselling clinic.
