March 4 to 10 is Social Work Week, and March is National Social Work Month. This year the Ontario Association of Social Workers is celebrating by highlighting the many ways that #SocialWorkOpensDoors.

The Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work would like to take this opportunity to highlight how our students, faculty, alumni, partners and collaborators are opening doors for the communities they serve. Our goal is to highlight the breadth of the social work profession, help those who may not be familiar with the field better understand the kinds of roles that social workers play, and showcase the immense impact of our diverse community.

How do you open doors for the communities and individuals that you work for and with?

We are inviting members of our community to provide a short answer to this question (1-3 sentences) along with a photo of themselves that we can share publicly on our website and on social media.

On our website, your answers and photos would look a little something like this: Read “10 pieces of advice from alumni for the Class of 2020.”

Members of FIFSW’s community who work in the social work field are invited to respond to dale.duncan@utoronto.ca with the following:

  • Your name
  • Your professional title
  • Your place of work if applicable
  • Your relation to FIFSW (ex: student, faculty member, sessional instructor, alumni, field instructor)
  • If you are alumni, you could include your year of graduation
  • Your photo (high resolution if possible)
  • A 1-3 sentence description of how you, as a social worker, are opening (or hope to open) doors to the communities and individuals you work with. (If it is possible to point to the impact of your work, that would be wonderful.)

We will be accepting submissions for consideration throughout the month of March, however, the sooner you can respond the better. If you have any questions, please email Dale Duncan, FIFSW’s senior communications strategist.
