The Opioid Crisis: A lived experience presentation

Brendan Penfound and Stephanie Stylianou will cover their lived experience on the opioid crisis based on the perspective from the Caritas School of Life. Caritas serves and supports men and women aged 16 years or older, who struggle with addiction and/or mental illness, in safe residential settings as well as in a day program community. The presentation will also touch on the Wellness Collaborative Initiative, a partnership with Addictions Services
York Region, Vita Nova, Black Creek Community Health Centre and Across Boundaries. The presentation will include a background on Naloxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids.

Brendan Penfound, Community Outreach Counsellor, Caritas, is a Caritas program graduate. He will speak to his lived experience with opioid use, bullying, homelessness and use of poor coping tools.

Stephanie Stylianou, Peer Support Worker, Bee Well Project drop-in program, Caritas, will offer a female perspective through a lived experience lens on substance abuse and trauma. The Bee Well Project signifies community partnerships and collaboration towards a common good.
