Professional Skills Development Series: Lorie Shekter-Wolfson- “Now that I have my MSW, now what?”- Room 548

Lorie Shekter-Wolfson is an experienced clinician, administrator and consultant. A graduate from the University of Toronto Masters of Social Work program and several Executive programs at the Rotman School of Management, she has worked in a variety of settings and roles, including health care, education, government and community. Her invaluable first-hand experience as a leader and change agent has been very helpful for those institutions and businesses undergoing change. In addition, her expertise in interprofessional and team-based care has led to several award winning initiatives. Lorie has held a variety of positions including President and CEO of JVS Toronto, Dean and AVP Waterfront Campus, George Brown College and Director of Social Work, The Toronto Hospital (now UHN). As President of JVS, Lorie led the organization through a time of tremendous change, including addressing its financial challenges, a new strategic framework, new Mission, Vision and Values, and implementing a more efficient governance model.
As Dean and AVP Waterfront Campus at George Brown College, Lorie was a member of the senior management team. Lorie co-led the development, design and implementation of George Brown College’s new $175M Waterfront Campus that opened in Fall 2012. The Campus houses the Centre for Health Sciences and is designed to embrace an Interprofessional learning framework. Lorie has also authored articles on social work, marital and family therapy, interprofessional education and its impact on design, as well as two books on eating disorders. Lorie is the recipient of the Colleges Ontario 2010 Exemplary Service Award and the Ontario Association of Social Workers’ 2011 Inspirational Leader Award. Over the years, Lorie has been an active member on several agency and government committees, education and professional committees and boards both locally and across Canada; as well as community boards and has been the recipient of several United Way Spirit Awards. Lorie is currently a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto and sits on the Board of BAYCREST Hospital and Apotex and is the Committee Chair of Quality and Safety.
