December 6th – Day of Remembrance
December 2, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm
National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women
12:00-1:15pm
Room 348 and Social Work Art Wall (3rd floor)
On December 6, 1989 the lives of 14 women were taken in a mass shooting in Montreal at the Ecole Polytechnique. This marks the 30th year of the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women. Join FIFSW students, staff and faculty on Monday, Dec. 2nd as we pay homage to the women murdered on that day and those missing and murdered before and since.
Students of SWK4623H Violence in Families: Multilevel Intervention in Interdisciplinary Practice have contributed art expressions for the current exhibit on display on the Social Work Art Wall (3rd floor across from the elevators).
*Warning: the subject matter of the art exhibit is evocative though it has been approached with sensitivity.
Henna for Hope – offered by Karima Jaffer, year 1 MSW student. Pay what you can. All proceeds will go to Sistering, a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed. https://sistering.org/.
Karima is also available to apply henna designs during the lunch break of Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Art Wall.
Sock drive – nearly 50% of the homeless population are women. There is a dire need for women’s (and men’s) sized socks that are 50% wool. The socks will be distributed through Street Outreach services. A collection box will be placed just outside of Room 348.
