Join INQYR for an engaging conversation addressing the rise in anti-trans backlash across Canada and exploring various forms of interventions and resistance that center 2SLGBTQ+ young people. INQYR is thrilled to welcome LJ Slovin (they/them), author of Fierce, Fabulous, and Fluid: How Trans High School Students Work at Gender Nonconformity, who will share insights from their work and lead a discussion on navigating and resisting these societal challenges.

Event Details:

LJ Slovin is the author of Fierce, fabulous, and fluid: How Trans High School Students Work at Gender Nonconformity (NYU Press, 2024).  Their work has also been published in Curriculum Inquiry, Journal of LGBT Youth, Sex Education, and RERM. They are currently a Martha LA McCain Postdoctoral Fellow at the Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. In January, Slovin will join the University of Victoria’s Child and Youth Care program as an Assistant Professor.

About INQYR

The International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR) is a SSHRC-funded interdisciplinary and multilingual international research partnership designed to understand and support the resilience of LGBTQIA2S+ youth through technology-engaged research. It seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of LGBTQ+ youth resilience that is inclusive of multiple regional contexts in an increasingly digitized world.

INQYR is led by Dr. Shelley L. Craig, and supported by Dr. Ashley Brooks, at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto and a Partnership Leadership Council (PLC). The Partnership Leadership Council is comprised of co-chairs from each of the regional networks. Currently, there are five regional networks: Canada, the US, Mexico, the UK, and Australia. INQYR also includes organizational partners and collaborators, creating an international network of sexual and gender minority researchers, service providers, and partners. They provide a spectrum of sociocultural and disciplinary knowledge and expertise. As of 2021, INQYR also includes a youth advisory board.
