Description of the practicum site and student activities:
Bethesda Clinical Services provides clinical supports to adults living with Intellectual and developmental disabilities. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, Bethesda aims to improve the lives of adults who require support in any of the following areas: Mental health and well being (1:1 or group counselling and Psychotherapy), Caregiver Engagement (1:1 or group counselling and psychotherapy), Speech and Language supports, Occupational Therapy, Psychometric Assessments, Dual Diagnosis Justice Case management, Complex Support Coordination, and Behaviour Supports.
Students would have the opportunity to shadow each member of the team and observe how each Clinician provides assessment and treatment. Students would learn about the service model utilized at Bethesda called the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA). Students would be expected to assist with CHOICE appointments (intake) as well leading assessments and counselling/Psychotherapy sessions (both 1:1 and group) with direct guidance from Clinical Supervisor. These individual and group sessions would be both with the population we serve, as well as with unpaid family caregivers. Student would have the opportunity to attend Clinical meetings and community meetings.

No, but awareness of Autism/ Dual Diagnosis would be an asset.
