SickKids CCMH has two sites. The student will alternate between both sites (e.g., 2 days at Jarvis, 1 day at Sheppard).

Description of the practicum site and student activities:
Practicum Site:
The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). We offer a range of in-person and virtual mental health services for children and youth (infancy to 18) and their families. (Please note, this is not a placement at SickKids Hospital).
Student Activities:
The practicum student will carry a caseload of up to 6clients from CCMH outpatient programs (Individual & Family Services, Bridging Service), where they will provide individual and family therapy and case management services. The student will be expected to:
- Provide individual and family therapy treatment to youth aged up to 18 with a variety of mental health challenges (including engagement, assessment, formulation, the creation of a treatment plan, and provision of ongoing treatment)
- Provide case management, care navigation, liaison and referral services for clients internally and externally
- Collaborate with internal interdisciplinary team members (e.g., Psychiatrists, Child and Youth Care Practitioners) and external care providers (e.g., teachers, school administrators or other allied mental health professionals, child welfare agencies) to ensure the needs and goals of clients are being met
- Attend, participate and present in clinical case conferences, team meetings, and weekly supervision meetings with practicum supervisors
- Complete and maintain documentation (including but not limited to progress notes, care plans, discharge notes) in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Participate in and administer measurement-based care evaluations, as well as program evaluations developed by the research team
- Attend agency seminars and learning opportunities related to children’s mental health and approaches to family therapy

Does your practicum require any previous experience?
Previous work experience with children, youth, and families in case management, therapy, and/or other supportive roles is considered an asset.

In-Person (alternating between both SickKids CCMH sites).
Will this practicum involve direct work or a mix of direct and indirect?
Direct client-facing treatment services (plus associated indirect work such as documentation, care planning, consultations, etc.).

- Fast paced environment. Both sites have stairs and an elevator to travel between floors. Desk work to complete documentation, care navigation duties, etc.
