Focus: BIPOC-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed mental health care

Description of the practicum site and student activities:

Leena is a virtual mental health platform that provides culturally responsive therapy to diverse communities, with a strong focus on BIPOC individuals. As an innovative mental health company, Leena integrates technology with evidence-based clinical practice to enhance accessibility and quality of care. Practicum students will have the opportunity to work in a teletherapy setting while gaining hands-on experience in delivering psychotherapy under supervision.

Student Expectations Caseload

  • Maintain a minimum of 5 clinical sessions/week

Weekly Hours

  • Dedicate at least 15 hours per week to client sessions and related activities on the
  • Leena platform, including evenings and weekends.

Dedicate Time Weekly for Research and Development

  • This includes staying updated on the latest evidence-based practices, exploring new therapeutic approaches, and contributing to the development of resources that enhance client care

Create Social Media Content – 1 video or 3 blog posts a month

  • One Instagram video (e.g., a 30-60 second reel) sharing insights, tips, or educational
  • content related to mental health, therapy, or wellness. Or 3 blog posts, each ranging
  • from 250-500 words, covering mental health topics, self-care tips, or culturally sensitive wellness practices.

Documentation

  • Students are expected to have client notes imputed into the system by the end of week. Your clinical supervisor will review case notes every Monday.

Clear Communication

  • Ensure consistent and clear communication with supervisors and the Leena team,

especially regarding client care and professional responsibilities.

Professional Development

  • Take advantage of training opportunities, workshops, and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge

Direct Observation and Session Recording

MSW Students:

  • Required to record 2 therapy sessions during the practicum. Ensure all recordings adhere to ethical guidelines, with informed client consent obtained beforehand

Accessibility Considerations for Practicum Students at Hello Leena

  1. Virtual & Flexible Work Environment
    • Remote Work: All practicum activities, including client sessions, supervision, and training, are conducted online, allowing students to work from an accessible and comfortable environment of their choice.
  2. Technology Requirements
    • Reliable Internet & Devices: Students must have access to a stable internet connection, a computer/laptop with a webcam, and a private, quiet space for conducting virtual therapy sessions.
    • Accessible Platforms: The Leena platform is designed for ease of use, but students should ensure they can navigate telehealth software, clinical documentation systems, and communication tools (e.g., email, video conferencing).

Practicum Requirements

  • Police Reference/Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Comfort working with the population being served
  • Comprehensive report writing and documentation
  • Lived experience/Current member of the community being served

Preference for BIPOC students as that is the majority of our population we serve but we are open to anyone who is interested.
