The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Macro MSW Practicum
ASWB is looking for graduate level social work students who want to make an impact across the U.S. and Canada.
The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) invites MSW students to complete a unique, highly competitive, bi-national practicum experience serving the regulatory community. Selected students will have a learning opportunity unparalleled in social work with meaningful projects focused on licensure, the future of the profession, and collaboration with partners from across the social work eco-system.
For the 2025-2026 Academic year, we are seeking one student from the U.S. and one student from Canada. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2025.
ASWB macro social work internships include:
- Up to 900 hours of field education for Masters-level student (dependent on program requirements)
- $10,000 student stipend
- Travel and lodging (U.S./Canada, depending on home social work program location)
- Outcomes-based projects
- Primarily remote learning and project activities
- Belonging and respect for human differences and determination focus
- Legislative policy involvement in various North American jurisdictions
- Direct supervision and mentoring with the ASWB CEO

ASWB is the professional association providing technical support, resources, and services to the 64 state and provincial social work licensing authorities in the U.S. and Canada. Created in 1979, ASWB develops and administers the licensing examinations.

Description of the practicum site and student activities:
This unique, highly competitive opportunity offers graduate-level social work students a chance to engage in impactful, bi-national (Canada and U.S.) projects focused on licensure and the future of the profession.
Practicum Requirements:
☒ Travel by public transportation between home visits, or satellite offices, or community meetings, etc.

Is this practicum in-person, remote or hybrid?
Remote w/travel to ASWB headquarters in Culpeper, VA, or other U.S. locations one to two times during practicum for several days. Travel including food and lodging will be fully covered by ASWB.
Will this practicum involve direct work or a mix of direct and indirect?
Mostly indirect projects but may include in-person interactions at one or more of our three annual signature meetings and/or presentations for the regulatory community and allies across the profession.

Performing the duties of this practicum with or without accommodation include, prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times, ability to travel as needed
