Amina Hussain is a doctoral student and research coordinator at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. She holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Psychology and Mental Health Studies.
Amina is a current recipient of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS – Doctoral Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Her research interests include: mental health, social work leadership, leadership competencies within interdisciplinary care, social work practice, recovery oriented care, anti-oppressive practice, anti-colonial work, mixed-methods, and community based participatory action research. Amina is also passionate about contributing towards social work education and pedagogy.
Amina has played a leadership role in co-founding a province wide initiative on supporting social service needs of underserved ethno-racial communities across Ontario. She is listed as a lead collaborator for a community-based action research project with Muslim community members, social service agencies, academic researchers, and faith-based service providers.
She has worked at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, East Metro Youth Services, Baycrest Hospital, and the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly.
