The Association of Latina and Latino Social Work Educators (ALLSWE) is based out of Rutgers University and focuses on the advancement of social work education especially among the Latino population. Gerardo was awarded the scholarship for his outstanding academic accomplishments, scholarship, leadership and commitment to marginalized communities and his work with LGTBQ immigrants. Gerardo is also the first Latino Canadian and non-US based student to be awarded this prestigious scholarship.
Gerardo is a PhD student at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work who has worked extensively with CRUISElab. His focus for nearly 10 years has been research, community and evaluation work in the area of the Social Determinants of Health in relation to sexual health minority groups, particularly Spanish-speaking immigrant men.
