The Addis Ababa University School of Social Work is relatively new since it was reopened in 2004 after being discontinued for three decades due to political reasons in 1974. Since its rejuvenation in 2004, the school has been trying to expand its activities in the areas of research, teaching and community services.

The talk will include:

Featured speaker:

Dr. Messay Gebremariam Kotecho is an assistant professor of Social Work and Social Development at Addis Ababa University (AAU). He has more than ten years of experience in teaching, research, community services, and consultancy experiences in Ethiopia on different issues including older people. He was the former director for the Office of HIV Prevention and Control, AAU for three years and six months (December 2015 to May 2019). He is a research associate at the University of Johannesburg as of November 2018. He was a short-term scholar at the School of Social Work, Indiana University, USA from February, 2019 to April, 2019.  He has travelled, has attended and presented a number of papers in Africa (Kenya, South Africa and Cameroon), Asia (China and South Korea), Turkey, Europe (Sweden), Australia and the United States. His research interest includes elders’ well-being, female care-leavers, migration, and etc and he has also a number of publications on the aforementioned areas.
