Diwali, Deepvali, or the Festival of Lights is a major holiday observed by Hindu, Jain, Sikh and some Buddhist communities. It is celebrated with lights, gifts, feasts and fireworks to celebrate knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. Diwali is also an opportunity to do a deep clean of the home in preparation of welcoming Goddess Lakshmi who is said to walk through homes blessing devotees with prosperity.
