SWK4657H Social Determinants of Homicide for Black Communities: Creating Culturally Responsive Approaches to Traumatic Injury - Elective

NOTE: OFFERED AS A ONE-WEEK INTENSIVE COURSE

Individual and community mental health and well-being are strongly influenced by the broader context in which our clients live. A Social Determinants of Health (SDH) framework provides the analytical tools to address structural challenges and related concepts of colonialism, racism that affect people’s health and well-being. This course will utilize this same framework to examine social determinants of homicide, with a specific focus on factors that contribute to the disproportionate experience of homicide for Black communities, while exploring culturally responsive trauma informed ways to intervene.
