SWK 4670H – Cybercounselling and Social Work Practice - Elective

This innovative course explores the new and exciting field of online counselling. We will look at cutting edge theory and research and investigate important and distinct ethical issues. This course also affords students opportunities to go beyond the theoretical and explore real-life applied situations in the online counseling environment. Weekly seminars cover varied topics including counseling theory and the therapeutic alliance, outcome research, text-based counseling techniques, technological challenges and client characteristics most appropriate to cybercounselling. Students will be exposed to the work of experienced cybercounsellors with the focus on applying theory to the practice of social work. This course is unique at the graduate level and is only available through the University of Toronto.
