CAMH – Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) Program – Indigenous Approach pathway
Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) Program – Indigenous Approach pathway
Location:
Hybrid – home, 101 Stokes Street, CAMH Queen West Site, various satellite delivery sites in Toronto
Description of the practicum site and student activities:
The Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program, in partnership with Shkaabe Makwa Clinical Services, offers cognitive-behavioural therapy to all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis adults (18+) living in Ontario for depression, anxiety, and related conditions. Indigenous clinicians provide one-on-one sessions that blend evidence-based psychotherapy with traditional and holistic Indigenous knowledges and cultural elements, creating a safe space to explore cognitive and behavioural challenges. The approach integrates an understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories, helping individuals gain insight into the impact of their experiences on their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
Students will participate in a combination of in-person and remote fieldwork, joining their field instructor on-site at the OSP offices, at satellite delivery sites, and from home.
Student activities will include shadowing clinical assessments and treatment for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals experiencing depression or anxiety-related concerns; attending team and interagency meetings; collaborating with the Indigenous Approach Working Group and Indigenous Advisory Circle; visiting satellite delivery sites; and supporting culturally specific treatment modifications.
