As FIFSW’s Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Shahana Arain works collaboratively with academic, administrative and student leaders to develop and implement initiatives aimed at advancing EDI within learning and working environments throughout the Faculty. Shahana works in partnership with FIFSW community members to educate, inform, and advance principles and values of EDI through training and outreach. 

As EDI Director, Shahana’s support includes: 

  • Serving as a resource to members of the FIFSW community in understanding policies and procedures related to making EDI-related complaints 
  • Receiving disclosures of EDI-related incidents and supporting students, staff and faculty in reporting EDI concerns 
  • Providing consultation on EDI-related matters and opportunities 
  • Collaborating in the creation of EDI professional development, education and mentorship initiatives  
  • Consulting and/or co-facilitating EDI workshops with students and student associations 
  • Supporting faculty to enhance curriculum to meet EDI needs and requirements 
  • Partnering in the development of networks, mentorship, professional development initiatives and events focusing on diverse communities of learners 
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating programs, events and ongoing activities relevant to learners, staff and faculty that support an environment of equity and inclusion 
  • Working with EDI-related advisory and action committees on strategies that promote EDI 
  • Contributing and developing communications and other related materials that raise awareness of EDI issues, education opportunities and policies.
