2022-2023 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Speaker Series – An Embodied Response to the Wounds of Oppression: The Voices of Youth Who Have Eating Struggles While Living in Situations of Homelessness, Street Involvement and Food Insecurity

Dr. Christina Hyland is a recent graduate of the FIFSW PhD program. Her dissertation is a critical qualitative study (traditional style thesis) that strived to understand how eating disorders and body image challenges are experienced by food insecure youth enduring homelessness and/or street-involvement. Centered on the voices of youth through interviews and arts-based methods, Christina’s dissertation is founded on her passionate commitment to deepening her understanding of trauma, eating struggles, and the impact of structural oppression on the lives of disadvantaged populations.
