Gwendolyn Fearing-Afflick

Gwendolyn is a registered social worker with 10 years of direct social work experience in mental health supporting children, youth, and families with mental health concerns. Gwendolyn has experience in the area of residential treatment, intensive in-home support, and school social work practice across different areas of the Greater Toronto Area. For 4 years, she has also worked provincially with School Mental Health Ontario (SMH-ON) as the addictions prevention and literacy consultant leading 2 main projects on the implementation of a substance use prevention program for elementary aged students, and the implementation and training on screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for school mental health professionals. Gwendolyn has taught in the School of Social Work at York University and has been an invited guest lecturer to teach lessons on mental health literacy and school work practice with student substance use. Gwendolyn has published in the area of mental health literacy, graduate school curriculum for school social work practice, and implementation of evidence-based practice in child/youth mental health. She has also been an invited collaborator on publications with many scholars, known internationally, on publications in the area of mental health and implementation science. Gwendolyn currently remains in the field of mental health and is one of the community clinic team managers at the George Hull Centre for Children and Families. She has earned her MSW and doctorate (PhD) from the University of Toronto, and is committed to professional development to also complete an addictions certificate at Wilfrid Laurier University and various certification-based trainings such as in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy.
