DESCRIPTION:Anti-Black racism has been prevalent in the history of Ontario. Slavery\, inequities\, exclusion and many other forms of discrimination have been the basis of much of Ontario’s past. By proclaiming August as Emancipation Month\, Ontario is following the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the period of 2015 to 2024 being the International Decade for People of African Descent to ensure people of African descent receive the recognition\, justice and access to opportunities they deserve. \nLearn more about Emancipation month in Ontario.

DESCRIPTION:This popular Hindu and South Asian ceremony celebrates the bond between silblings during which sisters tie a rakhi (amulet) around the wrists of their brothers symbolically for their protection and brothers give gifts to their sisters.  \nCommon greetings: “Happy Rakhi” or “Happy Raksha Bandhan”  \nReligious and cultural days\nStudent Life has compiled a list of significant religious and cultural days. \nExplore the list to learn more about the holidays of different faith and ethnic groups\, when they are celebrated and how to greet or acknowledge those who observe. \nFor students: Accommodations for Religious Observances \nVisit the Office of the Vice Provost Students website and learn more about Religious Accommodations.  It is the policy of the University of Toronto to work with students who observe religious days other than those already accommodated by current scheduling and statutory holidays.
