SUMMARY:Alumni Association Distinguished Speakers Series
DESCRIPTION:The Global Refugee Crisis: Lessons Learned from the Canada-Syria Experience \nAs social workers and as a community in general we are all impacted by the global refugee crisis. Rarely in history have so many people been displaced both by war\, persecution\, or economics. \nPlease join us in welcoming Naomi Alboim as our Distinguished Speaker who will be sharing her experience and expertise in working with refugees in the Canadian context. Professor Alboim is a Distinguished Fellow and Professor at the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University in Canada where she has taught graduate courses on immigration and refugee policy for the past eighteen years. She has written extensively on immigration and refugee policy\, and advises the Canadian federal and provincial governments\, and NGO’s on a variety of related topics. \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. \nRegistration: https://fifswspeakersseries.eventbrite.ca \n  \nThe Distinguished Speakers Series\, created by the Alumni Association in honour of the Faculty’s 100th anniversary in 2014\, brings leading edge thinkers to the Faculty annually\, in perpetuity\, to explore avant-garde issues. By fostering debate and dialogue about crucial societal challenges\, these lectures benefit students\, alumni\, researchers and the community.
