DESCRIPTION:Advanced Motivational Interviewing\n  \nFriday\, May 27th\, 2016\n9:00-11:00 am\nRoom 2-212\, OISE\n252 Bloor St. West \nPlease note the change in location to accommodate a larger capacity. \nKindly RSVP by  May 11th to Natasha at n.valentine@utoronto.ca \nThe workshop will familiarize attendees with the advanced methods of motivational\ninterviewing. Focus will be placed on the component processes of MI that lead to producing\nclinically meaningful change such as evoking and responding to change talk. The session will\ninvolve demonstrations and experiential learning to facilitate MI skill building. Recent findings\non the clinical proficiency in MI will be discussed throughout the session. \n  \nAllen Zweben is currently Senior Associate Dean for Research and Academic Affairs and\nProfessor at the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York. Dr. Zweben has played\na key role in developing motivational interviewing (MI) techniques that have been employed in\nboth behavioral research and clinical practice for addiction problems. Dr. Zweben has had\nextensive experience in training students\, academics and professionals on how to incorporate\nMI in social work practice. He has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of\nTraining (MINT) since its inception. Dr. Zweben is a co-author of a widely used textbook for\nsocial work students and practitioners entitled “Treating addictions: A guide for professionals”.\nA second edition of the book is now in process.
