The SiREN Symposium is a biennial event for individuals and organisations dedicated to preventing and reducing the impacts of sexually transmissible infections and blood-borne viruses. The Symposium showcases evidence-based practice, and provides an opportunity for cross-sector networking and collaboration.

The theme for this Symposium is Breaking out and breaking through: outbreak response lessons for and from the sexual health and blood-borne virus sector.

The theme recognises that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted upon the way in which services are delivered and research is conducted in the sexual health and blood-borne virus sector. Presentations will describe the nature of these impacts, reflect on their short- and long-term significance, and highlight examples of, and opportunities for, innovation and adaptation.

The theme also recognises that the sexual health and blood-borne virus sector has a long history of responding to epidemics and other complex public health issues. To that end, the Symposium will also include presentations celebrating how knowledge from the sector informed successful responses to COVID-19 and reflecting on the ways sector knowledge and expertise can be applied to other health challenges.

The Symposium will be hosted at the Perth Novotel Langley on Friday 24 June 2022 and will be live streamed and recorded for participations unable to attend in-person. A limited number of travel bursaries are available for participants from regional Western Australia.

SiREN will be hosting a sundowner networking event for in-person delegates at the end of the Symposium. Food and beverages will be provided. The Sundowner attracts an additional cost.
