SWK 4639H – Special Topics in Child & Family Social Work: Child and Adolescent Trauma: Causes, Consequences and Core Concepts - Elective

This course will examine the various types of trauma that children and adolescents experience using in depth case examples.  In order to understand the impact of trauma in the short and longer term, we will study the way in which trauma affects the nervous system, information processing, memory, attention, judgment, and self-esteem, and how untreated or sustained trauma interferes with children’s social and emotional development, learning, and mental health.
