JFS 1460H – Community-based Natural Resource Management Systems (Communities, Sustainable Development and Natural Resources) - Elective

The course is designed to develop an understanding of the issues related to sustainable development and community-based natural resource management systems (CBNRMS), and to equip students with necessary skills for institutional analysis of sustainable development and CBNRMS.

The course is organized as a seminar course and covers topics on Community Development, Civil Society and Development, Economic Development, Human Development, Social Development, Sustainable Human Development, Basic Concepts of CBNRMS, Institutions and Institutional Analysis, Data Requirement for Institutional Analysis and Participatory Methods of Data Collection, and Design Principles for Institutions of CBNRMS. The experiences of sustainable development and CBNRMS systems from different parts of the world – Asia, Africa, South America, North America and Europe – are also discussed.
