Lawrence Murphy holds an MA in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. He and his colleague Dan Mitchell were the first people on earth to use the internet for the delivery of mental health services, having established Therapy Online in 1995. Mr. Murphy co-authored the first ethical code for online counselling practice in 1998 and has published widely in the field, including the seminal work “When writing helps to heal: E-mail as therapy”, published in the peer-reviewed British Journal of Guidance and Counselling in 1998.
Lawrence continues to engage in research in the fields of cybercounselling, cybercounselling training, and eSupervision. He has presented on cybercounselling research at numerous national and international conferences including providing keynote addresses at several. His most recent manuscript was published in the summer of 2009 in the British Journal of Social Work.
