Aanii, My name is Gee waniwhay eekwe (Whirling wind woman). My English name is Ela Smith. I am bear clan from Brunswick House First Nation and have the privilege of journeying with my son, Avery who is 19 years of age. I am a graduate of the Master of Social Work, Indigenous Field of Study at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Much of my career has focused on working within mental health and advocacy. I have worked as Executive Director at White Owl Native Ancestry as well as Program Director at Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centers.  For the past year I have been teaching in the MSW, BSW, and Social Development Studies programs at University of Waterloo.
