Lynn Factor named to the Order of Canada

Lynn Factor has been named a member of the Order of Canada “for her contributions to the field of social work and for her dedication to improving the lives of our most vulnerable children.” Ms. Factor has had a distinguished career in child welfare, working as a front line social worker, supervisor, manager, philanthropist and leader. She has worked in various organizations, such as the Durham Children’s Aid Society, the Ministry of the Attorney General and is currently at the Toronto Child Abuse Centre (BOOST), where she prepares child victims or witnesses to testify in criminal court.

She has taken on leadership roles in many ways. Ms. Factor is one of the founding volunteer members of Boost’s fundraising committee which holds an annual black tie butterfly ball for Boost. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Toronto Children’s Aid Society, chairs the Scholarship Committee for Toronto Children’s Aid Society and she is a member of the Dean’s Circle of Advisors for the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. She is one of the honourary chairs for Social Work’s Boundless Campaign.

The generous donation that Lynn Factor and her husband, Sheldon Inwentash, made to our Faculty established five endowed Chairs and fifty graduate scholarships and led to the renaming of the Faculty in their honour.
